Dear Socrates Academy parents,
On behalf of the Socrates Academy Board of Directors, I would like
to congratulate each of you once again. Your hard work,
input, and support have helped make Socrates Academy an
"Honor School of Excellence with High
Growth" for the third year in a row. This is
North Carolina's top recognition for student performance.
This prestigious honor is the result of the efforts of everyone at
Socrates Academy. Our administration, teachers, scholars, PFI,
parents and Board of Directors have worked very hard to help
achieve this outstanding result. Thank you for all of your efforts
on behalf of our scholars.
We are very proud of this accomplishment. We achieved high growth in all tested areas. Our overall proficiency for 2010-2011 and 2009-2010 was 95.3%, up 2.5 percentage points compared to 92.8% overall proficiency from the 2008-2009 year and up 6.2 percentage points compared to 89.1% from the 2007-2008 school year. This is great progress. Looking ahead, we have plenty of room to grow, improve, and reach higher.
Our success is a work in progress. As we move through this school year, we will continue our efforts to inspire excellence in everyone around us. As you already know, the Foundation Board of Trustees, hand-in-hand with the Board of Directors, have worked diligently to secure funds, which were used to purchase the elementary school facilities and adjacent 7 acres of land, as well as to build a 12,000 square foot interim building on the new property. This is being used to house our growing student population. At this point, we are waiting for the City of Charlotte to approve the middle school site plan that our Foundation has submitted. This plan includes an exit to Simfield Road, additional parking and a new state-of-the-art middle school building.
The Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Trustees are committed to serving and supporting our school as well as creating a unique and rewarding learning environment so that our scholars will continue to receive an exceptionally high quality education. We are here to ensure that our school progresses and grows to its fullest potential.
We would like to encourage all of you to intensify your volunteer efforts and to participate as fully as possible with our capital fundraising campaign. Please consider expanding your contributions. We need the input, talent, and financial and other contributions of each of our families. You are the backbone of our school. Your continued interest and support will facilitate our efforts in reaching outside the school to the greater Charlotte community and to other donors nationally.
Many challenges lie ahead so let us come together and honor our mission. In doing so, we will be able, as one Family, to face all challenges ahead successfully.
