Thank you to our title sponsor, Showmars, and
all our additional sponsors:

On May 22, Socrates Academy put on the 4th Annual Swing for Socrates Golf Tournament, sponsored by Showmars. This year's tournament was held at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation. The tournament had 25 teams register for a total of 97 players. The participants enjoyed a great round of golf and capped the evening off with a few raffle give-a-ways and a BBQ buffet dinner. Congratulations to this year's winning foursome of: Pete Jacoby, Des Dawson, Tim Jeffer and Jim Milam who shot a 56 (-16).
We want to thank all our sponsors and participants who supported this year's tournament and helped make it a wonderful event. In addition, thank you to all the volunteers who put in hours and hours of work over the course of three months to make the tournament possible. Without your help and support we would truly be lost. The 4th Annual Swing for Socrates Golf Tournament raised over $8,500 for the Socrates Academy Foundation and its capital campaign.
This year we started a new tradition at Socrates Academy called the Spring Fling: An Evening of the Arts Event. The event was created as a way to showcase some of our students talents in the area of fine arts. One piece of artwork was selected from each student in the school and displayed in a gallery feel at the back of the gym. Out of those pieces, two students from each grade had their artwork selected by Marilyn Hartness, Professor of Art at Wingate University, to be part of our live auction event.
The event began with a performance by the After School Choir under the direction of Dimitrios Zaimakis. After the choir, the 6th grade band gave a wonderful performance highlighted by an emotional rendition of "Sakura Sakura" dedicated to the families of those affected by the recent disasters in Japan.
After the performances it was time to begin the live the auction. The students whose artwork was selected are listed below:

Kindergarten winners

Vasili and Alexis (First Grade)

Dorothy and Gracie (Second Grade)

Jon one of our third grade winners

Lauren and Maria (Fourth Grade)

Catie and Emily (Fifth Grade)

Jessica and Erin (Sixth Grade)
In addition to the students artwork, Mrs. Laurie Sullivan also donated a piece of artwork for the auction. In total through donations and the live auction the event raised over $1,250 for the Socrates Academy Foundation and the capital campaign. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event. We hope you all had a wonderful time.

This year Socrates Academy partnered with the team at Boosterthon to put on the school's first Fun Run Event on April 14. The Fun Run program is centered around charter building, fitness and fundraising.
The three team members from Boosterthon that supported our school were: 'Cannonball' Collin, 'Cadillac' Zack, and 'Jumpin' James. There three gentlemen spent time in the classrooms each day over a six day period talking to our scholars about fitness and different character traits. The program concluded with a school wide Fun Run in the Socrates parking lot. Students were asked to secure pledges for each lap they ran during the Fun Run. Through our students hard work and the generous support of our donors, we raised over $25,000 for the Socrates Academy Foundation and the capital campaign.
We received pledges from over 30 states and 10 countries! Please be sure to share the good news with all the supporters your scholar received pledges from. Additionally, if your scholar still has outstanding pledges we will still accept those and they will be added to our school's total. We are very fortunate to have great families and great supporters all across the country.
Below are a few pictures from the event:

Once again Socrates Academy took part in the Art by Me fundraising program. Each student at Socrates drew a picture that was then transformed into different products that their parents could buy. The products ranged from magnets and mouse pads to t-shirts and backpacks. Through the hard work of Lori Dell and Gina Wilson we were able to raise over $1,400. Thank you to everyone who participated in this program and we hope that you enjoy the artwork your scholar created.
As an extension of our partnership with Chick-fil-A this year Socrates Academy families were encouraged to purchase and sell Chick-fil-A calendars this year. Each calendar cost $7 and $3 from each sale went back to the Socrates Academy Foundation. This year we sold 369 calendars raising $1,107 for the Socrates Academy Foundation.
This years BBQ and Baklava event was held on Saturday October 23 from 4pm - 8pm in the Socrates Academy parking lot and new gym. At the end of last school year a decision was made to hold the event in the fall and use it as an opportunity for all the Socrates families, both new and old, to come together in one place for some food, food and socializing and this event this year lived up to the expectations.
Beside a date change there were a few other changes to this years event. A rock climbing wall and 1 on 1 bungee run were added as new activities, as well as a football toss for children of all ages. This year, the dunk tank was replaced by a pie toss, giving students and parents, the opportunity to throw a plate of whipped cream at their favorite teacher or administrator. This years event also featured the staples from years past. Events such as face painting and hair painting, as well as gyros, bbq and cotton candy.
The event was a great success. We had over 450 people attend and raised over $1,600 for the Socrates Academy Foundation and the capital campaign!
A special thank you goes out to the BBQ and Baklava committee as well as Aphrodite Davis, Daniese Ingram and Tyria Naspinski for all their help in planning the event.
In addition, thank you so much to all the families and staff members that helped out with the event. We greatly appreciate your time, effort and commitment to our school. Your support made it all possible.
We also want to send a special thanks to Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Galanis, Mrs. D-H, Ms. Fortune, Mr. Lynch and Mr. R (who sat for a grueling two hours) for braving the Pie Toss!! We were able to raise $292 for local charities.
As usual the themed basket raffle was a huge hit. Thank you also to the families who contributed items to the baskets, we are never disappointed with the level of generosity and creativity from our Socrates Academy families. The baskets were once again, extraordinary!! The three most popular baskets were Ms. Brown's Sugar, Spice, & Everything Nice Basket, Ms. Fischer's Sports Fanatic Basket, and Ms. McGill's Arts & Crafts Basket!
Last, but not least, we wish to thank Socrates parent, Kosta Peroulas, for donating the gyros, burgers, hot dogs, and french fries for the event. Everything was delicious!!
This year at Socrates Academy saw the addition of Jeans Days. Every Friday starting in November students were able to wear jeans to school if they paid $1.00. To date there have been 24 jeans days and we have raised, $6,323 for the Socrates Academy Foundation and the capital campaign. This is an average of over $250/week.
Socrates Academy again partnered with the Chick-fil-A at the Arboretum to host Chick-fil-A Nights on the second Tuesday of each month. These events are a great opportunity for students, parents and staff to all come together to talk, relax and enjoy some good food.
In addition to being a good time social, these events also help raise money for the school. The Chick-fil-A nights this year raised just over $1,000 for the Socrates Academy Foundation. Thank you to everyone who came out to the Chick-fil-A Nights this year. We will see you next year.
