Each one to two weeks at Socrates Academy brings a new theme for art studies. Grades K-5 share one theme, but each grade level has a separate lesson plan, based on the NC and National Standards for art studies. To see the standard links below, just click on the grade level.
Several weeks per year are dedicated to ancient Greek art studies. Other weeks help support art fundamentals, growing in complexity as the grades progress. Incorporated into many lessons are famous art works and art history. We look at art books and posters for inspiration, as well using online museum sites. Another emphasis is on art medium exploration. Students are exposed to a wide variety of art styles, media and methods with lessons based on:
* drawing
* painting
* sculpture
* ceramics
* printmaking
* architecture
* mosiacs
* weaving
* mixed media
