Interested in Working with Gifted Scholars?

Socrates Academy supports the development of all members of staff through school-wide professional development, access to resources housed in the AIG Coordinator's office, and consultation by request. Staff who would like to work increase their knowledge of giftedness and/or teach in an AIG cluster class can access training and obtain licensure through the following routes.

Licensure Option 1: AIG Degree from an Accredited College or University

This option requires admission to an accredited college or university that offers the courses for gifted licensure. Upon completion of the courses, individuals have an add-on licensure for gifted education that is accepted at any district within the state. As a reference, the cost at UNCC for this licensure is typically around $3000 + books and materials. UNCC offers many scholarship opportunities for educators who would like to pursue a certificate, Mater's degree, or PhD in gifted education.

Licensure Option 2: Praxis and Micro-credentials

North Carolina added the Gifted Education Praxis to the list of certification tests. An individual can pursue licensure by passing the AIG Praxis with a minimum score of 157. NCDPI does not recommend taking the Praxis without taking courses focused on the nature and needs of gifted learners; therefore, if a teacher obtains their AIG licensure by passing the Praxis, Socrates Academy additionally requires that they complete the 3 micro-credentials offered by NAGC. Socrates Academy offers reimbursement for the micro-credential and Praxis Exam fees upon successful completion of both.
