Earn an Internationally Recognized Greek Language Credential
What is Ellinomatheia?
The Certificate of Attainment in Greek, or Ellinomatheia, is the only certificate of proficiency in the Greek language that is offered and recognized by the Greek state.
The Center for the Greek Language (CGL) collaborates with accredited examination centers to administer the exam. The Certificate can be obtained at six different proficiency levels (Α1, Α2, Β1, Β2, Γ1, Γ2).
Socrates Academy is an official examination center for the Greek Language Certification Exams, recognized by the Greek Ministry of Education and administered by the Center for the Greek Language.

In sum, these examinations provide students and community members the opportunity to earn an internationally recognized certification of Greek language proficiency, demonstrating their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Modern Greek.

IMPORTANT DATES
Registration Period: February 1, 2027 - March 14, 2027
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be at least 8 years old by May 31, 2027.
Candidates over age 12 are not eligible for the A1 Children (8–12) exam.
Candidates over age 12 may register for the A1 Adolescents/Adults exam.

How do I know if my child is ready for Ellinomatheia?​
If your scholar demonstrates proficient Greek language skills in the classroom, they will be recommended for the Ellinomatheia Exam by their Greek instructor. Please contact your scholar's individual Greek language instructor with questions regarding your child's elligibility.

LEVELS
​​A1 Beginner level
A1 (for children 8-12): Focuses on basic communication skills in everyday situations.
A1 (for adolescents and adults): Similar in content but tailored for older learners.
​A2 Elementary Level
Tests basic knowledge of Greek, including the ability to understand and use simple phrases and sentences in familiar contexts.
B1 Intermediate Level
Demonstrates the ability to handle everyday communication needs, such as understanding and participating in conversations on familiar topics.

B2 Upper-Intermediate Level
​Indicates a good command of Greek, with the ability to understand more complex texts and engage in detailed discussions.
​
C1 Advanced Level
Reflects an advanced understanding of the language, enabling the learner to use Greek fluently and accurately in both professional and social contexts.
​
C2 Proficiency Level
The highest level, showcasing near-native proficiency. This level is often required for academic or professional use of Greek in Greek-speaking environments.
