8TH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY

Tuesday, June 7th  ~  1:00pm - 2:30pm
Middle School Multi-Purpose Room

We can't wait to celebrate with your scholars! The 8th Grade Promotion ceremony will be held during the day. This is a change from previous years when it has been held in the evening.

Please be mindful that the Multipurpose Room has very limited seating due to occupancy requirements. To ensure that all families have a seat, we are kindly requesting that attendees are limited to parents and siblings.

  • This event will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend

  • After the ceremony students will be released directly to their families and will not return to class

  • Parking is limited, please carpool if you are able to

  • Students will wear their dress clothes to school, rather than changing while at school.

  • Thank you to Angela Connell for creating the slide show for our scholars! Information for how to send pictures for the slideshow ran in the Connection, Thursday, May 12th.

Promotion Ceremony Dress Code
Please note the following with regard to attire and other important information for the promotion ceremony:
  • Student attire is required to be their "Sunday Best."  This means NO jeans, NO sneakers, NO flip flops, NO T-shirts, and NO shorts.

  • Boys are required to wear a tie, dress slacks or khaki pants, and a collared dress shirt; jackets are not required, but are welcome.

  • Girls are required to wear dress slacks or skirt with a nice blouse, or a dress.  SPECIAL NOTE: Please make sure that dresses are school appropriate and modest.  Sleeveless dresses/tops (3-finger width) are fine. A light sweater or bolero jacket is required during the ceremony if the dress/top is strapless or has spaghetti straps. Please also be mindful of dress/skirt length since scholars will be walking onto the stage.

  • Dress shoes are required for both girls and boys. A nice pair of sandals is fine for girls, as are flats like Toms. Boat shoes are fine for boys.

Yearbooks

Yearbooks are expected to arrive the week of June 7th. 8th grade students will be priority for yearbook purchases if there are any extras that arrive, for those who have not already ordered. If you would like to purchase a yearbook, your student may bring $40 cash or check made out to Socrates Academy and they will be added to the purchased list.

8th Grade Class Gift

In 2013, the tradition of a Graduating Class Gift was established by the families of the first 8th grade class to graduate Socrates Academy. It's a way to say, “Thank You” to the school, model a giving spirit, and to ensure that future Socrates students will benefit from their generosity.

In keeping with that tradition, we are asking all 8th grade families to give a monetary gift of any amount towards the class gift.

The 2021-2022 Class Gift will go towards setting up a student lounge in the (temporary) High School Building for Scholars.
