8TH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY
Thursday, June 3rd ~ Middle School Multi-Purpose Room
Due to Covid-19 this year's 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held in 3 short socially distanced sessions by homeroom. We will live stream the event for extended family to watch, and parents may attend.* Students who are in person are expected to attend. Students who are remote and are not comfortable attending may opt out of event attendance and will have their name called out during the Certification presentation. Remote students may come by the school and pick up their Promotion Certificate the following week.
The MPR will be cleaned and sanitized between processions. Dress Code for this ceremony is listed below.
6:00 – 6:30 PM – Dorsey Homeroom
6:45 – 7:15 PM – Farkas Homeroom
7:30 – 8:00 PM – Leddy Homeroom
Please be mindful that the Multipurpose Room has very limited seating due to occupancy requirements. To ensure that all families have a seat, we are kindly requesting that attendees are limited to parents, and siblings.
Friday, June 4th ~ Gym Building ~ Promotion Party - Half Day for 8th Grade
We will hold a celebration for 8th grade scholars only in the Gym building. Scholars will be released at 11am and will enjoy a picnic lunch (brought by each student) before dismissal. Students will be able to sign yearbooks and will watch the full Promotion Ceremony Presentation including Keynote Speakers and Slide Shows during the event. The presentation will be posted to YouTube so that families may also watch at their convenience.
8th Grade Promotion After Party ~ Date and Time TBD
The Promotion After Party is planned by volunteers and is held off site. The 8th grade students are invited. Attendance is optional as this is not an "official" Socrates event. This year's After Party will be socially distanced.
8th Grade Class Gift
In 2013, the tradition of a Graduating Class Gift was established by the families of the first 8th grade class to graduate Socrates Academy. It's a way to say, “Thank You” to the school, model a giving spirit, and to ensure that future Socrates students will benefit from their generosity.
In keeping with that tradition, we are asking all 8th grade families to give a monetary gift of any amount towards the class gift.
Promotion Ceremony Dress Code
Please note the following with regard to attire and other important information for the promotion ceremony:
Student attire is required to be their "Sunday Best." This means NO jeans, NO sneakers, NO flip flops, NO T-shirts, and NO shorts.
Boys are required to wear a tie, dress slacks or khaki pants, and a collared dress shirt; jackets are not required, but are welcome.
Girls are required to wear dress slacks or skirt with a nice blouse, or a dress. SPECIAL NOTE: Please make sure that dresses are school appropriate and modest. Sleeveless dresses/tops (3-finger width) are fine. A light sweater or bolero jacket is required during the ceremony if the dress/top is strapless or has spaghetti straps. Please also be mindful of dress/skirt length since scholars will be walking onto the stage.
Dress shoes are required for both girls and boys. A nice pair of sandals is fine for girls, as are flats like Toms. Boat shoes are fine for boys.
We will have a photographer (parent volunteer) there to take pictures. The photographer will make the photos available to parents after that evening, or you may take your own.
